On 31 January 2009, ‘Magic Babe’ Ning, widely
regarded by the media and entertainment industry
as Singapore’s only professional female magician & escape artist, will be
the first Singaporean in history to headline an international magic convention
in the United Kingdom.
J C Sum, will be a featured lecturer at the same event to share his knowledge and experience as one of Asia’s most celebrated illusionists.
The duo has been officially invited to perform and lecture respectively for the Southern England Magic Convention (SEMC).
The will be the first major magic convention in the United Kingdom for 2009 and will be held at The Lakeside Country Club in Surrey, England, located near London.
The full one-day convention consists of lectures, dealer booths and magic competitions, stretching to the grand gala show in the evening and “apres-gala party” till the wee hours of the next morning.
Well-known magic personalities lecturing at SEMC include Mark Parker, Lee Alex, Paul Gordon, Mel Mellers and Gary & Paul Hardy-Brown, aka, The Twins. Other performers for the gala night include Mike Danata, James Fortune, Magic Singh, James More, El Loco, Roy Charles and more. Ning & J C will be the only magicians from Asia featured in the convention.
Widely acknowledged by both the local and foreign media as the ‘sexiest woman in magic’ and recently voted #16 in FHM’s ‘100 sexiest women in the world’ list, ‘Magic Babe’ Ning is a rising star in the international magic community. As the headline act for SEMC, Ning will be one of the very few female magicians in the world to ever close an international magic convention over her traditional male counterparts. The 26-year-old will be presenting Deadly Sexy Magic, her 20-minute show that features her signature act “The Straight Jacket Striptease”, as well as, a brand new illusion where she will attempt to pass her body through a solid steel plate.
J C Sum is best known for making news headlines worldwide when he teleported 50 floors up the OUB Centre in just 5 seconds while surrounded by over 9000 spectators. Besides giving a master lecture at SEMC, J C will also be launching his fourth illusion design book, ‘Urban Illusions’, during the event. His previous three illusion books have been sold in more than 35 countries worldwide since 2004.
Together, J C & Ning made history on 24 September 2008 when they teleported three spectators across the iconic Singapore River in 2.5 seconds in front of over 5,000. This mega illusion was a key highlight of the inaugural Singapore River Festival, held during the Singapore GP Season organized by the Singapore Tourism Board. J C & Ning also currently star together in "Ultimate Magic", Singapore's first permanent illusion show, at The Arena in Clarke Quay. Officially endorsed as a permanent attraction by the Singapore Tourism Board, the show runs daily from Monday to Saturday. Slated to run all the way till 2010, this landmark project is now approaching its second season.
